Amstrad CTM644 Colour Monitor

Here's my colour monitor for the CPC. As far as I recall it's not the same model I had as a kid (I think we had the CTM640 which lacks a 12V DC socket for the disk drive on the 6128). It came bundled with the 464 I purchased from eBay and seems to be in perfect working order. The CPC 464 and this monitor (as well as about 30 games) cost me £192 which I think is pretty reasonable. A quick Google search as of the time of writing suggests that these monitors are going for about £70 - £100.

I don't have the original box so I need to add that to my collection todo list.

The display is capable of a decent brightness level (which is adjustable).

Powering up the display is very nostalgic. It makes a reasonably loud static electricity sound when you push the power button which I remember so vividly from my childhood. No idea what causes it - given the 1980s attention to safety it may well be dangerous for all I know!

It's quite amazing how far display technology has moved on over the decades. This screen has a 13.5" viewable area but the actual monitor is pretty big and quite heavy. I particularly like the built-in handle for carrying it. There is a noticeable flicker to the display (not a fault, it was just the technology at the time) which my eldest commented on. I seem to remember that you get used to it after a few hours of use 😀.
