Oh Mummy
This was the first game I decided to try on my newly purchased CPC to check the system worked.
Of all the games I've played in my life this has to have one of the most memorable "soundtracks" I can recall. It's a tinny faux-Egyptian theme that is deeply ingrained into my psyche.
The game is essentially a Pac-Man ripoff but is surprisingly playable. Each level is a single screen with 20 boxes arranged in a grid:
The object of the game is to advance past each screen (level) by discovering a "royal mummy" and a key. Each level starts with a single "guardian mummy" that tries to kill the hero (just like the ghosts in Pac-Man). The boxes may contain either a key, a royal mummy, a scroll, treasure, a guardian mummy or nothing. You open a box by walking around its edges to reveal its contents but be careful not to unwrap the box containing another guardian mummy or it'll start chasing you.
The AI is pretty weak unless you're playing on the fastest levels but the game is enjoyable enough. My two daughters seemed to like it:
Although the game gets a little repetitive after a while I think it's a solid title and worth a play.
